Wonder ware was an industrial software brand now owned by
Aviva and rebranded as AVEVA. Wonder ware was part of Invensys plc and Invensys
plc was bought in January 2014 by Schneider Electric. Invensys plc. Formed in
1999 from the merger of BTR plc and Siebel plc and wonder ware was acquired by
Siebel plc in 1998.
Wonder ware software
Now under the name AVEVA, wonder ware software is used in a
variety of industries including: Automotive Assembly, Facilities Management,
Food and Beverage, CPG, Mining and Metals, Power, Oil and Gas, Chemicals,
Energy, Water and Wastewater. Over the decades, wonder ware has built a network
of distribution partners, including a group of individually owned partners that
do business under the wonder ware name.
Wonder
ware partners
This network, including named wonder ware partners, now
sells and supports AVEVA products. This is the core of the SCADA system that
collects process data and sends control commands to field connected equipment.
It refers to the computer and software responsible for communicating with field
connectivity controllers, such as RTUs and PLCs, and includes HMI software
running on operator workstations.
SCADA systems
In smaller SCADA systems, the master computer may consist of
one PC, in which case the HMI is part of this computer. In larger SCADA
systems, a master station may include multiple HMIs hosted on client computers,
multiple data collection servers, distributed software applications, and
disaster recovery sites. To increase system integrity, multiple servers will
often be configured in a dual redundant or hot standby setup to provide
continuous control and monitoring in the event of a server failure or failure.
Connect
to sensors
Remote end units, also known as (RTUs), Connect to sensors
and actuators during the process and are networked to the host computer system.
RTUs have built-in control capabilities and often conform to the for
programming and automation support through ladder logic, function block diagram
or a number of other languages.
Factory
automation
Also known as PLCs, they are connected to sensors and actuators
in the process and are connected to the supervisory system network. In factory
automation, PLCs usually have a high-speed connection to the SCADA system. In
remote applications, such as a large water treatment plant, PLCs can connect
directly to SCADA via a wireless link, or more commonly, they use an RTU to
manage communications.
Programming languages
PLCs are specifically designed for control and were the
founding platform for the IEC 61131-3 programming languages. For economic
reasons, PLCs are often used for remote sites where there is a large number of
me /so, rather than using the RTU itself.
Wonder ware was co-founded by Dennis Morin and Phil Huber.
Both were former employees of another local startup based in Irvine,
California.
Program designed
Wonder ware was sold to the British company SIEBE in 1998
for nearly $400 million. By then, all the founding members had left the
company. Co-founder Phil Huber remains active in startups. Morin died on the
last day of 2012. Wonder ware became part of Paris-based Schneider-Electric in
2014. but wonder where was the first to introduce a program designed for use
with the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Software
Development
Wonder ware was founded as a partnership in 1987 and
incorporated in California in 1988 as wonder ware Software Development
Corporation. Lyskills provides online Scada Wonder Ware training courses in Pakistan. The company re-incorporated in Delaware in 1993. At the time,
there were other software companies producing programs to automate
manufacturing processes, but wonder where was the first to introduce a program
designed for use with the Microsoft Windows operating system.
